Music for Wing Walkers is a monthly concert series hosted by Threes Brewing featuring innovative music defying labels. Join us on February 11th for:
8pm – Brandon Lewis Trials
“The Brandon Lewis Trials “Games” is a refreshing and stimulating concept album that contains an inventive sound palette created through a highly developed mix of acoustic and electric elements enhanced by musical studio effects. The sonic landscape takes the listener on a journey that for most will be unfamiliar, but intriguing and adventuresome. When listening to the overall sound, it is not difficult to envision an artist using a wide variety of color combinations that derive very singular and specific ideas. Brandon (trumpet) and his group (Kevin Theodore, piano; Ben Carr, bass; David Frazier Jr., drums; Zach Koeber, tenor sax on “Lights”) are on to something special in terms of conveying emotion and imagery and have found an exciting voice with which to express themselves within these well-conceived compositions.” – Todd Coolman
Brandon started his formal advanced training in trumpet and music performance at the University of Northern Iowa, and then moved to New York City to continue his freelance music career and received a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance from SUNY Purchase College.
Timo Vollbrecht – sax/clarinet | Keisuke Matsuno – guitar/effects | Martin Nevin – bass | Jason Burger – drums
“Luminously fine” (All About Jazz) German saxophonist-bandleader Timo Vollbrecht is a passionate, improvising artist whose roots lie in Berlin’s innovative music scene. Together with his longtime partner-in-crime, German-Japanese guitarist Keisuke Matsuno, he formed an ensemble that is fueled by cultural diversity and inspired by the urban sounds of his cities Berlin and New York, as well as by the intersection of different stories, ideas, and worlds.
According to the New York City Jazz Record, the quartet’s “dynamic and emotive music is blessed with rhythmic fluidity and intricate twists.” A magical blend of vivacious energy and emotional intensity create a genuine sound that often depicts the sensation of flying – hence, FLY MAGIC! Each piece creates its own universe and the band’s love for improvisation adds spontaneity to the mix. Their blend of jazz with post-rock, minimalism, new music, and contemporary sound culture touches the soul of music fans and jazz lovers alike.
GRAMMY-Award-winning pianist Danilo Pérez invited the band to perform at the 2013 Panama Jazz Festival, followed by tours in Europe, Asia, the US, Dominican Republic and Haiti, where they shared the bill with highly acclaimed Branford Marsalis at the Festival International de Jazz de Port-au-Prince.
Their new album, Fly Magic, will be released in March, 2016 on the label Berthold Records.
